FAQs

Q: How do I get started?

A: It is easy, just call Artisound’s Long Island City Music School at 718-361-2922, or fill out our lessons inquiry form on the right side of this page, or send an email to info@licmusicschool.com. We are often teaching, so if you don’t us by telephone just leave a message and we will call you back as soon as possible to schedule your consultation. We looking forward to speaking with you soon!

Q: What is the consultation for?

A: The consultation is an initial meeting where you can meet your teacher and the staff at our L.I.C. Music School. We will make sure that the teacher is a good for you, and we will also talk about everything you need to know to get the most out of your lessons. We’ll talk about what we will provide you, and we’ll talk about your responsibilities as a student. This way, we can all work together to make you the best musician possible once your lessons begin! And, yes, the consultation is free.

Q: What Instruments do you teach?

A: We offer lessons in piano, voice, electric guitar, classical guitar, acoustic guitar, cello, drums, violin and flute.  We also teach composition and theory. We can teach you how to play music just for your own enjoyment, or we can help you prepare for exams, NYSSMA, auditions, and performances.

Q: How long will it take me to learn?

A: As long as you make sure to practice often and properly, you are going to make great progress! We will ensure that you are playing music starting from the very first lesson, and we’ll also be sure that you play everything very well. Then, as you get better, you will take on more challenging music. We will help you play everything that you do at the highest level possible, nothing less!

Q: What if I don’t have any experience?

A: If you have absolutely no experience, that is perfect! Often musicians have developed bad habits over time. We’ll make sure that you never develop those bad habits, so its often easier for students with no experience. However, we are also very experienced with teaching students who have a lot of experience.

Q: What is your attendance policy?

A: Our attendance policy is designed to protect your time as well as your teacher’s time. Please see the policies page for the full policy.

Q: Where is Long Island City Music School located?

A: Artisound’s LIC Music School is conveniently located near all of the trains in Long Island City. We are only one stop from midtown Manhattan on the E, M, R and F trains. We are near all trains in Queens, and are accessible from Brooklyn on the G train. Driving here is just as easy, we are blocks away from the BQE, LIE, Queens Blvd, and the 59th street bridge. The school is also accessible from the Hunters Point LIRR station. Please visit our contact page for directions. http://www.licmusicschool.com/contact/.

Q: Do I need to bring my guitar to class?

A: It will be best for your progress if you are playing your own instrument. However we understand that it is not always possible so we do have guitars available in the studio for you to use in your lesson.

Q: I don’t own a guitar yet. What kind should I get?

A: The kind of guitar depends upon the style of music you wish you play, and your budget. Please contact us before purchasing a guitar. We’ll be sure to refer you to someone who can find the right guitar for you.

Q: Should I take private lessons or a class?

A: Group classes are generally not nearly as effective as private lessons, so we only offer what is best for any student – private instruction.  We offer private, individualized instruction for about the same cost that other schools charge for group instruction.
